Hi everyone,
I wanted to share a few observations on a partial set of scrip from the C.E. Flanary store in Pee Vee, Kentucky. My first note is on the 25¢ piece. The piece I come across has "Merchandise Only" rather than the listed "Merchandise" on the reverse. [Edkins, 2197B25: "Good For/25/.In./Merchandise"]
This piece also measures to 24mm, rather than the listed 25mm B25. (I calibrated my calipers prior to measuring the pieces. Checked against 3 different rulers and an object of known size.)
Next, the listing B10. I have two of these, both have a period after "Merchandise" (.../Merchandise.). I noticed that Edkins Catalogue does not list a period after the "Merchandise". Measurements and other factors are the same as Edkins listing.
Finally, the prize! The last one is a C.E. Flanary Store 5¢ piece.
I have a few noticeable differences with this piece:
The token measures 19mm, rather than the 20mm size like the B5 listing.
The "5" on the reverse of this token is far more ornate than the other denominations. (Hollow "5" with downsloping stripes)
The biggest feature, in my opinion, is the way that the reverse is laid out. It is similar to the other B listings but instead, the layout is "•Good For•/5/In Merchandise", much like the
I'll follow up with some photos for review. Hopefully this will help out in the future.
(I apologize for the poor handwriting of you cannot read it in the photos, I was trying to write on a clipboard and already don't have the best handwriting...)
My Pee Vee pieces are exactly like yours, including periods, shading, photos, and sizes.
